Western Screech Owl

Megascops kennicottii

Description:

Very small (but not the smallest) owl. The Western Variation is common in the far western reaches of Texas. Their call is a very common trill that can be heard throughout the campgrounds at Big Bend National Park. This was from the Cottonwood Campground down the road from the Rio Grande Village.
