Urbanus dorantes dorantes
Adults feed on flower nectar from various plants, including shepherd's needle, lantana, trilisa, ironweed, and bougainvillea.
Seen at the Jardín Botánico; this butterfly actually followed me (or flew in the same direction) for quite a while.
I can't see any blue so it is Urbanus dorantes. Proteus would have a white bar on the hindwing.
