Pristhesancus plagipennis
This was the first time I had seen this species. This adult specimen was huge (body length at least 3cm), and with its unusual bowl-shaped abdomen, slow considered movements and big scary mouth parts I thought it was pretty sinister. As it turns out, they ARE pretty creepy. Assassin bugs catch prey by injecting it with paralysing saliva from its long proboscis. Its legs are usually long for extended attacking distance.

Thanks Leuba! I had never seen anything like it before, I was sure I had discovered some sort of mutant. But nope... just the 'Common' Assassin Bug!!!
