Large Milkweed Bug

Oncopeltus fasciatus

Description:

Orange and black bug that has orange forward-pointing triangles anteriorly and orange backward-pointing triangles posteriorly, separated by a black band in the middle.

Habitat:

Spotted on milkweed in a wildflower garden.

Notes:

These bugs accumulate toxins from milkweed, which can sicken any predators foolish enough to ignore the aposematic colors that warn of their toxicity
