Description:

These paper wasps (Family Vespidae) were feeding on the liquid exuding from a crushed seed. The squashed seed they were feeding on is in the last picture.

Habitat:

Rocks along the river, Chorreadero Park, Chiapas, Mexico.

Nice find, Lauren! I am pretty sure these are not Yellow Jacket Wasps. If you look you can see these guys have a thin, longer waist and slightly different markings (though I don't know what you call these). I think these are a type of Vespid Wasp (Family Vespidae). I found a website that might help:
