A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Fagus grandifolia
The American Beech is a deciduous tree. It can grow up to 75 feet and live up to 400 years old. The bark is smooth, and gray. The tree keeps it leaves in the winter so it is easy to identify. The nuts are also easy to ID as they are small and 3 sided. Bears really enjoy the nuts.
In Vermont it tends to grow in fertile areas.
