London Plane Tree

Platanus acerifolia

Description:

London Plane Tree seed pods are round and green and a little smaller than a gulf ball. When they mature, they turn brown. Some fall off the tree in late Fall and start to decompose. They break apart and turn into 'fluff ' and disintegrate or blow away. However many will stay attached to the tree through the Winter and fall off in the Spring. The cycle starts all over of coarse. The structure and pattern inside of them is intriguing.

Habitat:

Hot and very dry climate. My backyard.

Notes:

I love this tree and it fascinates me. One of my favorite trees.
