Society finch

Lonchura striata domestica

Description:

Wild caught society finch, was taking seeds from my zebra finch enclosures. Caught him using another small cage with seeds in it as a trap. Male finch, sang to one of the zebra females. This one is light colored with mostly white and light tan on its body.

Habitat:

Around my house, one can see many different species of finches eating tall grass seeds in groups of 10-15. These plus another species with a red face frequent the area.

I don't think I'll let him go, this species is not native to Puerto Rico and makes competition with the native seed eaters. This finch most likely escaped his enclosure. He was so hung up on my female zebra that I bought him a mate and they have 4 eggs.

May I ask why you caught him? Will you let him go again?
