Hibiscus rosa-sinensis
Bright red rose-like flowers on waxy leaved bush.
Growing near house on mission compound in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador. No idea if it is native or not. I haven't seen any out in the villages.
Thanks Linnea & Sukanya. I appreciate the help. I've updated the spotting. I have several others that I'll have to see if they match or if they are a little different. I may require your expertise again :-)

Hibiscus is called Joba in my mother-tongue. The variety you have spotted is called Dabbol (Double) Joba :)
Check double whorl variety of Hibiscus rosa sinensis...we have these in India...used for worship. I am typing this on my mobile...will check on computer tomorrow...
Looks like it may belong to the mallow family, Malvaceae (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibiscus).
