Sand Wasp

Bembix americana

Description:

Black and white abdomen with yellow legs and greenish-yellow eyes, feeding on nectar from Oregano flowers in my front yard.

Notes:

If not looking closely it would be easy for the layperson to mistake this for a honey bee or any other number of "bees" with striped abdomens. About 8 of these insects were busily feeding on the Oregano flowers in relative harmony with approximately 2 dozen Honey bees.
