Mycoblastus sanguinarius
Mycoblastus sanguinarius is a crustose lichen with a thallus that is greenish gray, cracked and has minute shiny black apothecia that is scattered and warty.
Spotted on a log near Cle elum, Wa. Prefers to grow on wood and bark of deciduous trees and rarely on siliceous rocks.
The name Bloody-heart comes from the red color that can be found under young apothecia if scraped off.
