A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Numida meleagris
Plump, upright grey fowl. Small head, bony red-brown helmet (casque). Grey-black body with fine, white spots. Bluish skin on sides of face & neck.
An introduced species, It breeds in Africa, mainly south of the Sahara, and has been widely introduced into the West Indies, Brazil, Australia and southern France. This was the first time I have seen these birds. There were 3 of them just cruising through a suburban park.
