Red Lored (Amazon) parrot

Amazona autumnalis

Description:

The Red-lored Amazon or Red-lored Parrot (Amazona autumnalis) is a species of Amazon parrot, native to tropical regions of the Americas, from eastern Mexico south to Ecuador, with a disjunct population in central Brazil, where it occurs in humid evergreen to semi-deciduous forests up to 1,100 m altitude.

Habitat:

We saw them all over Belize and Guatamala. This one was in Tikal Nat park near one of the hotels

Notes:

He was quite happy with himself and was displaying and flirting. THere were a couple others in the same tree, but not very visible. Having lived in Arcadia California, where there is a fairly large feral population of red loreds and lilac crowns, it was fun to see them in their native habitat
