Lion-tailed macaque

Macaca silenus

Description:

Mainly arboreal, this small macaque is about 35 cm in size. Very rare and most endangered among primates. Only found scattered in small groups in the western ghats. Listed as endangered in IUCN red list. The tail has got a small tuft of hair just like a lion's, hence the common name.

Habitat:

Spotted in a stretch of very thick forest eating wild jack fruit, which is one of their favorite food.
