Unidentified gelatinous mass

Description:

Dark slimy or mucus-like mass, ~ 30 mm x 20 mm, encapsulating small black spheres 2-3 mm in diameter. The spheres are evocative of caviar, so this may be an egg mass.

Habitat:

Insular tropical montane valley.

Notes:

Spotted in the middle of Lower Waimano Valley Trail, apparently anchored to a small tree root.
