Woolly Bear Caterpillar

Pyrrharctia Isabella

Description:

The Isabella Tiger Moth has a 5.5 centimeter wingspan, small yellow-orange fuzzy body and is the moth of the woolly bear caterpillar. The wooly bear caterpillar’s diet includes clover, dandelions, birch leaves, elm leaves, maple leaves, corn, sunflowers, and nettles in a very short feeding season (as caterpillars). Have you heard the myth that Woolly Bear caterpillars can predict the weather with their stripes? However, there is no scientific proof that this is true. The caterpillar has a chemical in its blood that is cryo protectant (protective from cold).
