Northern Lapwing

Vanellus vanellus

Description:

Not a fantastic photo, but a fantastic bird! This is a Eurasian species and a vagrant to North America. Hurricane Sandy blew over many to the States and all Winter reports have been coming from the northeast. This was the first sighting this far South this year, and definitely a first record for Georgia. Thanks to Lauren Deaner for finding the bird and sending updates to the listserv along with Cameron Cox.

Habitat:

Flooded field

Cool spotting. Glad you added the lapwing and spotted owl.

Ohhh man, that definitely rubbed it in haha. But one day I will see one! Just probably not this year, but I'm okay with that lol. Just as long as I get my goal of 5 good owl pics for the year, only have 1 down, but the year is still young :)

I don't meant to rub it in, but I forgot to mention I also saw the Snowy Owl! No pics from me, but here's one from a woman who saw it with me: http://www.flickr.com/photos/shannon_fai...
