Brahminy Skink

Eutropis carinata

Description:

Sleek lizard. Scales are glossy. The dorsal part is like old gold. A light yellow stripe with a darker band under it runs along the side of the body.

Habitat:

Just outside my house. I was stepping out to go to work when my eyes saw" " something" under the Lagerestromia tree. A closer look told me it had limbs...it was a skink! The area had recently been flooded because of incessant rains thanks to cyclone Khomen. It was only yesterday that the waters receded. Maybe the skink's burrow had been flooded...for this is the first time I have seen a skink here. It was hunting...eating insects...earthworms etc. The last photo gives an idea about the habitat where i found it...on the verge of a rainwater drain.

Notes:

This used to be called Mabuia when I was a student. Mabuya is called a wastebin taxon. It has been revised. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eutropis Please also see: http://rivughorai.blogspot.in/2011/10/hi...
