Argentine boa

Boa constrictor occidentalis

Description:

Argentine Boa Constrictors are a threatened species. This one in particular is at Montevideo´s zoo. Although this one was very calm, they are said to be very active snakes that need fresh water to survive. Males reach upto 8 to 9 feet and females around 12 feet as they are a bit larger. Both have a brownish, black coloration at the top and a grayish belly with dark spots. Athough it cannot be seen in the picture, when looked at from the top, it has a very distinguishable dark line from the neck to the tip of its snout. They eat small vertebrate animals such as birds, mice or rats.

Habitat:

It is a threatened species native from Southamerica and mainly seen in Argentina and Paraguay.
