Elegant Blister Beetle

Eupompha elegans perpulchra

Description:

Black beetle with red markings on elytra resembling flames. The head and thorax are all black.

Habitat:

Bush Sunflower, a native plant here in chaparral habitat. This subspecies main food is Asteraceae. It is found from the Mojave desert and Sonoran deserts down into Baja California. It's also found in spotty areas up through California to Sonoma County.
