Red Banded Polypore

Fomitopsis pinicola

Description:

Found growing on a rotted stump at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield

Notes:

I'm trying to learn more about the fungi I encounter on my walks and hikes. I think this may be: Phellinus igniarius (Willow Bracket), Fomitopsis pinicola (Red Banded Polypore), or Trametes versicolor (Turkey tail). Comments and guidance appreciated! Going with Fomitopsis pinicola for now based on suggestion!
