Larus hyperboreus
The Glaucous Gull is a large gull which breeds in the Arctic regions of the northern hemisphere and the Atlantic coasts of Europe.
This is a rare bird that has been known to cross into Texas. We usually see 1-2 reports a year for the state. Lifer #460 for the US Since May 2010.

Thanks Tom, yeah, they are pretty common up in the northern parts of the US on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. Texas is definitely a huge difference, but we get at least 1-2 reports annually somewhere along our 480 mile long coast. Most of them end up as non confirmable based on such a young plumage. It was nice to have such a well marked specimen.
Congratulations on the spotting and nice photo Cody. We get Glaucous Gulls in New England every winter, but this is a great find in Texas.
