Nymphes myrmeleonoides
This beautiful and delicate insect was about 40mm long with a wing span probably about 110mm. The thoracic segments were dorso-ventrally flattened and the dark abdomen had yellow patterns. Eyes were most - striking an iridescent blue, giving it the common name. Long wings showed delicate venation with white patches on curved tips. Each wing also had a narrow red patch, along the costal margin.
Open forests and damp habitats
The larvae look like antlion larvae and feed on other insects in pit traps built in loose soil. An exciting find for me ! Belongs to the Order Neuroptera which includes other lacewings and antlions. For a spotting of hatchlings of this lacewing go to: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/193...
