Barred Owl

Strix varia

Notes:

I was driving down route 2 at 55 mph and made a quick stop when I noticed this Barred Owl perched in a tree at the edge of the road. It just kept sitting there when I backed up the car and took a bunch of pictures of it.

Thanks Mona. It's nice when an owl poses for a picture in the middle of the day:-)

Ashley, I got lucky with this one being out in the open on the edge of the road. I'm on the road a lot so that gives me more opportunities like this.

Tom, you need to teach me your secrets on how to find owls in the daytime since you apparently are so good at it! This is a lovely series :)

Thanks Shanna. Barred Owls are mainly nocturnal, but will sometimes be active during the day. Good luck finding one perched somewhere, owls are amazing creatures.

Your owl pics are just amazing, Tom. I have never seen an owl in the daytime, and have only seen them flying past at night occasionally. (I want to find an owl!!!!)

Thanks Carol, it was a surprise to get such a nice look at the owl, unobstructed and in full sun.
