Cottony Cushion Scale

Icerya purchasi

Description:

The aphid was about 4mm long and the biggest one I have ever seen!

Habitat:

It was found on a small Leopard Tree bonsai in a garden in Toti

Notes:

This is the adult stage of an aphid. The adults of this species are hermaphrodite, meaning, they are both males and females. They secrete a waxy sack and lay their eggs in it. They also secrete honeydew, and ants learned that they can trigger that honeydew secretion by touching the aphid.
