Hemidactylus platyurus
A common species of gecko (Gekkota) that can be found living in most houses here. Skin color - brownish gray. Very territorial, chase other geckos away if they intrude into their area and make their famous territorial call while lifting and shaking it's tail to ward off other geckos. If caught by the tail, it will dislodge the tail and grow back a new one over time. Eat insects, big or small, but disliked the ones which can release powerful odor when threatened. Hunt insects like lioness quietly creeping close to them. Most of them have learnt to use the advantages of lightbulbs at night to catch insects. Color variations may occur, those who live indoors will gradually turn whitish to match the wall (like this spotting) but the wild ones still keep their dark brown colors. Can be mistaken as another common species of house gecko - Hemidactylus frenatus
On walls in my house, prefer to hide beneath shelter on walls like clocks, wall calendars and mirrors.
