Blue Corporal Dragonfly

Ladona deplanata

Description:

Dragonfly where mature males are deep blue with dark marks at the base of wings. Teneral male and female are brown with "corporal stripes" on thorax. Length 31-35 mm.

Habitat:

Woodland edges near ponds, also slow-moving streams. This one was photographed at the Silver Bluff Audubon Center near Jackson, SC.

Notes:

Flight period is March-May (early spring only). Predatory on flying insects.
