roadside hawk

Buteo magnirostris

Description:

Most common raptor in its range, the roadside hawk is a small member of the buteo family

Habitat:

Tikal - very early morning

Notes:

This guy rose up from almost under our feet as we were coming through a grove of trees at the hotel. As we watched we realized he was eating a snake(notice that the jays are hoping her drops it) even though it isn't readily visible int he photos
