Cladonia didyma
Red-tipped, minty green lichen with some darkening of the podetia ("stalks"). The podetia are 10-30mm long with red caps called apothecia--which are spore-bearing structures. This is a first-time spotting on Project Noah. The Cladonia genus is comprised of moss-like cup lichens. Lichens are composite organisms comprised of a fungus being inhabited by algae or cyanobacteria.
Growing on moss in dense, moist mixed hardwood forest.
According to NatureServe Explorer, Cladonia didyma's national status is N1 (critically imperiled).

Thank you, AshleyT!! I'm so pleased!
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
Thank you, Joseph! <3
Nice!
