Eurasian Woodcock

Scolopax rusticola

Description:

Feeding mostly at night, short legs and short tail give him this cute look.

Habitat:

In winter - fields and piles of dirt, where he searches for earthworms and bugs.

Notes:

This one was just a few meters from our car. They feed for 2 or 3 hours after it goes dark and then rest for a while - which is the best time for looking for them, when you don't disturb the feeding time.
