A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Grifola frondosa
A very large group of these mushrooms, with some mature specimens over a foot and a half across. The last photo shows one that was a bit younger and less branched. These can range from a dark brown to a very pale color on top and they have white undersides with pores.
At the base of a couple large oak trees (their typical habitat) in a mixed forest.
This polypore fungus is a popular edible in its native range (parts of Asia and the Northeastern US).
