Egyptian Vulture

Neophron percnopterus

Description:

Mostly white feathers; black on the wings. Yellow featherless face.

Habitat:

Sitting on electrical line as we whizzed past on the highway; there were about six or seven but we did not get very good shots as the driver refused to stop on the highway...but at least I have 3-4 usable photos.

Notes:

This is only member of the genus Neophron; and India is home to Neophron percnopterus ginginianus, the smallest of the three subspecies. It is one of the globally threatened vulture species found in India; classified under the ‘Endangered’ (EN) red list of the International Union for Conversation of Nature (IUCN). Safed giddh (white vulture) in Hindi. Good news: https://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp...
