Zalophus californianus
A medium sized (for a pinniped) Sea Lion, uniform brown, with long front flippers and maneuverable back flippers. Small external ear flaps. The call is a hoarse bark.
Coastline. Aquatic.
This one was swimming around the pier, looking up at the people, and barking incessantly. He was obviously very used to being fed pieces of fish, and who knows what else. Please don’t feed the sea lions. It can hurt them and they may stop hunting fish on their own.

Great spotting, Steven. Good notes too, and I like that you added not to feed the sea lions. I wonder how many animals lose the ability to hunt for themselves because of us?
