@Jellis, I think European Wasp is American terminology, but this is not the only Vespula wasp in Europe, we also have Vespula vulgaris which is known as Common Wasp or just Wasp, or, by some, European Wasp, just to add to the confusion.
For this reason Project Noah uses only the Scientific name for positive identification and allows users to put whatever they wish (within reason) in whatever language they wish in the Common Name field. We have considered expanding the Common Name field to cater for variations of Common Names and different languages but this is still some way in the future.
