Xylobolus frustulatus
Saprobic fungus growing densely and gregariously on a rotting log in patches of adjacent frustules. The individual fruiting bodies were irregularly shaped, resupinate, and were approximately 3-8mm in size. The fertile surfaces were tan-orange/brown (indicating maturity) and the sterile surfaces were blackish.
Growing on a rotting, decorticated log in a mixed forest with lots of oak.
