Shield Bug

Pentatomoidea

Description:

This pentatomoidea, otherwise known as the shield bug, is around 5 and a half centermeters long, and 3 centermeters wide. It has two large antennae that come out of the side of its' head, and also has 6 black legs. The shield bugs' body is mostly green, with a little brown neat the bottom of it's shell.

Habitat:

The shield bug was found under a leaf near the entrance of the Singapore American School's rainforest. Singapore is located off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, 85 miles north of the equator.

Notes:

These shield bugs can also be known as stink bugs because if threatened, they will produce a pungent liquid from special glands near their hind legs. The shield bug is different from other insects in the way that they show parental care, and guarding their young from predators.
