Ceiba speciosa
This tree has an interesting feature, which is spikes all over its trunk. The spikes are brown colored and come in different sizes. It is very tall, about 6-8 meters tall. The trunk has a slight greenish color, because it contains high chlorophyll. This means that the tree is considered young. The leaves aren't that big, but green and way up high.
I spotted this tree at the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore. At that time, it was drizzling. This tree was in a open place, allowing it to have enough sunshine. I found it at 7:04 PM.
The younger trees contain high chlorophyll on the tree trunk, allowing it to be green colored. This way, it can photosynthesize when the leaves are absent. When it gets older, the tree trunk turns grey.
