Ventral view of second-year male (an immature in its second calendar year, but only about 8-9 months old), on its wintering grounds, perched on a pine branch. Age determined by light colored feathering on throat (not completely black), and by tapered shape to the rectrices (tail feathers).

Dato de la especie: es común observarla en el Caribe y en toda América (Norte, Centro y Sur). Fue descrita por primera vez en 1789 y hasta hoy en día se conserva su nombre científico. No obstante, este ha tenido ciertas variaciones a través del tiempo:
