Telse, there are two species of Boxelder Bugs in the US and Canada,. Eastern Boxelder Bugs (Boisea trivittata)and Western Boxelder Bugs(Boisea rubrolineata), with the Rocky Mountains essentially dividing Eastern and Western species. Because the Eastern species is more widespread it is often referred to by the generic term "Boxelder Bug". The Western species can be distinguished from the Eastern species by the red veins on the wings.
