Southern Giant Petrel

Macronectes giganteus

One of the more common seabirds on my trip. For some more in depth info about these birds, check out the first spotting I uploaded: We found quite a few of these petrels in the sea ice, including a slightly rarer white variant (pic 2). The photo is over exposed, but I included it because it's very rare to find a southern giant petrel THAT white (usually have black speckles).

Open ocean, and we found these ones in the sea ice near the peninsula.

Very common birds, but the white one not so much!
