Southern Giant Petrel

Macronectes giganteus

Description:

One of the more common seabirds on my trip. For some more in depth info about these birds, check out the first spotting I uploaded: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/181... We found quite a few of these petrels in the sea ice, including a slightly rarer white variant (pic 2). The photo is over exposed, but I included it because it's very rare to find a southern giant petrel THAT white (usually have black speckles).

Habitat:

Open ocean, and we found these ones in the sea ice near the peninsula.

Notes:

Very common birds, but the white one not so much!
