Martial Eagle

Polemaetus bellicosus

A very large bird with a wingspan of 6 to 8.5 feet. Found in sub-Saharan Africa. The martial eagle is an apex predator, being at the top of the avian food chain in its environment and, if in healthy condition, having no natural predators. This one was high up on a dead tree, pulling apart and eating a medium sized bird

Chobe riverfront, situated in the extreme Northeast of the Chobe National Park. Mainly fairly open lush floodplains

Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!

Thanks Robert. Yes that's the one that strikes me most also, but you can't really see its head so well, so I didn't choose that. I'll put it and see...
