Corticioid Fungus or Crust Fungus

Large crusty fungus which must grow quite quickly since it has engulfed fallen twigs and leaves. If it is a Corticioid (or "Crust") Fungus, then this would be the fruiting body, with the fungus plant inside the wood.

Huasteca Forest, Edward James Surrealism Park, Xilitla, San Luis Potosí.

Thank you Mark, a fungus growth would certainly be faster than that of a lichen.
