Bottlebrush sawfly & eggs

Pterygophorus cinctus

Description:

An attractive sawfly with bright orange abdominal bands and shoulder patches and serrated antennae was spotted on a plant with eggs (pic 2 & 3). The eggs were seen just under the cuticle of the leaf.

Habitat:

Spotted on a young bottlebrush plant ( Calistemon species)

Notes:

Have spotted these before but never with eggs. This wasp seemed busy checking out the leaves on this plant. I noticed the eggs only after closely examining the photograph later. Order: Symphyta
