Beach Tortoise Beetle

Aspidomorpha deusta

Description:

This is one of my favourite beetles! Today I made a curious observation. The beetle approx 1cm diameter, began rocking side to side (pic 3), 3 times and then would extend its wings (pic 1) and then close them. It repeated this process about 8 times before flying off.

Habitat:

Found on Ipomoea vine (Convolvulaceae) at Cattana Wetlands, QLD

Thank you Lauren, yes it was curious behaviour. I was able to photograph its wings open, because it was predictable :-)

Interesting behavior, I've never seen a beetle do that.
