Soldier Fly

Stratiomys maculosa

Description:

Yellow and black fly with two, long horn-like protrusions between the wings. The second image highlights the horns. I'm very curious to find out what they are and their purpose.

Habitat:

Pomelo tree leaf in the backyard.

LOVE this fly!!

Thanks Luis. This is the first time I've been able to see the horns on this species because I have a better camera this time. I like learning more about species I've spotted before :)

Great series Cindy! I have seen those horn-like protrusions in other soldier flies too.
