False Coker's Lepidella

Amanita subcokeri

Description:

This mushroom species closely resembles Amanita cokeri, but has some key differences. It is a large (4") white mushroom with large and small warts present on the cap. Pinkish staining on the bulb and peeling scales right above the bulb. White gills with lots of short gills present. Shaggy stem and a double ring.

Habitat:

Growing on the ground in a mostly deciduous forest.

Notes:

Amanita expert Rod Tulloss has provisionally named Amanita subcokeri as a similar species to Amanita cokeri. This mushroom was identified on the Mushroom Observer. This is the first spotting for this species on Project Noah.
