Atherinopsis californiensis
A native Silverside species. Grows to up to 18 inches long. Streamline body. Silver from light on the bottom to slightly darker on top. Pectoral fins are thin and long and found above the eyeline. This helps it glide through the water faster. Two marks where the tail meets the body and a yellow patch on the top of the gills. Commercially harvested and a favorite to many sea birds.
Endemic to North American Pacific coast. This one and others are found in shallows of the bay.
The fish was released back into the bay
