Banyan tree

Ficus aurea

Description:

Large tree, 20-30 feet tall. Please note the roots than appear to coming out of the limbs in the upper right and upper center of the photo. I saw 2 of these trees.

Habitat:

Yucatan forest preserve.

Notes:

I used the following to identify and name this tree. After I discovered that it was a Ficus, I looked up Mexican Ficus. This referred me to ficus aurea. I then references ficus aurea and saw a picture resembling the tree on the wiki site. I then selected the colorful Mayan name that I had heard used by a guide on a previous trip through a Yucatan forest.
