Description:

About 60mm tall, Charcoal black cap; white gills and stipe.

Habitat:

Mixed pine and eucalyptus with leaf mulch. Rained 11 and 4 days earlier.

Thanks for the suggestion MM. I have spotted several rooting shanks before and this one seemed quite different. The cap was very dry to touch, no sign of flattening out, the stipe was already much more robust than the rooting shanks I've seen and had fine hairs all over it rather than smooth scales. I'll hunt around a bit more... see if I can find another one as I'm going back there next week.
