Large black biting fly. Approximately 1 1/4" long


Upland forest adjacent to floodplain forest.


As large as any biting fly I've ever seen. Don't recall ever seeing an all black biting fly. I'm calling it Darth Vador.

This is very likely a Black Horse Fly. However, the distance from the subject makes me a bit hesitant to give you a 100% on that. Here is a link:
